Community Mental Health First Aiders

With fantastic support from our volunteer Helen and the Leeds City Council staff Disability & Wellbeing Network (DAWN) we've just delivered a second course of this two day training.

Our aim was to increase the strength of resilience within the LGBT+ community for peer support of those in mental health crisis, along with bringing together groups for better links between the various support agencies.

The first course included representatives from: Leeds Frontrunners, Mill Hill Chapel, Yorkshire Terriers FC, St Anne's Community Services, Leeds Gay Men, Simon On The Streets & Gay Abandon Choir alongside a number of Angels volunteers.

The second course which has just been completed included people from: BE-LGBTQ, Leeds Street Angels, Feed Leeds, The Bayard Project, Pockets Theatre, Leeds University LGBT+ Network, St Georges Crypt, LGBT+ Sport Fringe Festival, Pockets Theatre and more of our Angel volunteers.

The majority of places for both training courses were delivered 'at cost' for the required resources & certification, however we were pleased to be able to deliver 10 fully funded spaces on the second batch thanks to sponsorship from Touchstone Support & Scott Watson. This ensured accessibility to grassroots community groups who don't have funding to cover the training, even at the base cost.

We don't have a third course scheduled, however there are a number of free online qualifications available on understanding Mental Health. If you're interested in accessing the online training please email us on info@angelsoffreedom.org.uk
