ANGELS OF FREEDOM
"Bringing a caring LGBT+ scene to a compassionate city"
The Angels of Freedom is a community based initiative organised by volunteers and supported by Leeds City Council, British Transport Police and West Yorkshire Police.
Our aim is to provide visible support for the LGBT+ community based in the Freedom Quarter area of the city every Friday evening. Our volunteers provide conversations on support & social groups, activities and events in Leeds, along with just being a friendly approachable face on the bar scene for anyone wanting a chat.

Our Leeds Freedom Families group provides peer support & networking opportunities for parents (close family/friends) of LGBT+ children of any age.
Relaunching Thursday 21 January 2021.
WHO WE ARE
The Angels of Freedom community project launched on Friday 9th December 2017, having undertaken a year of research, planning and gaining experience of supporting people within the Night Time Economy.
Our group is led by founder Rob Wilson, with volunteers from a range of different backgrounds and community knowledge all working together to provide compassionate support to all members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans + community.
OUR ACTIVITIES
Making a difference in the community

SUPPORT
Every Friday evening from 7pm 'til 11pm we spend time between the Freedom Quarter area, Call Lane and Wharf Chambers in order to engage with people visiting the area.
We carry various information flyers regarding services & groups, and we're happy to talk through these with people along with other LGBT+ matters and events in the city.
Our volunteers can provide advice around support, but we're also there for anyone just wanting a general chat with our friendly crew.

AWARENESS
We work with various agencies in Leeds to run a monthly 'Ambassadors' awareness session, covering a range of topics around risk, vulnerability, safety & support.
These sessions can be attended by anyone with an interest in supporting members of the LGBT+ community, as we seek to increase knowledge and enable better peer support.
From increased knowledge we look to empower attendees to identify potential risks for others, enable confident discussions and have an awareness of providing positive support.
